In last week’s newsletter, I put out a call for readers to send in memories from Bagatelle Records after the passing of its owner Steve Mintz. The record store has been a fixture on Atlantic Avenue in Downtown Long Beach for nearly five decades.
Fred Janssen sent in this gem:
“Steve was a genuine larger-than-life character and a really, really good guy. Whenever I’d stop by Bagatelle he would drop everything and we would swap stories for an hour or so, having loads of laughs along the way. From those conversations I can tell you he was a man of great personal integrity who enjoyed his work and loved his family above everything else.”
“Steve was a Long Beach institution. He represented a lot of things that I loved about Long Beach, things that are going away and cannot be replaced. I will miss him terribly.”
