Though Long Beach’s Armstrong Garden Center on 10th St. opened in 1994, its parent company has been in the nursery business for 125 years. And to celebrate this historic anniversary, all 31 California Armstrong locations will be hosting a garden party tonight with food, drinks and discounts for all who attend.

The first Armstrong started as a fruit tree nursery in Ontario and grew to become an industry leader in roses, ornamentals and eventually became an innovator in flowering perennials, citrus, berries, grapes and avocados.

“We are extremely proud to uphold the vision that our founder, John Armstrong, began in 1889,” says Monte Enright, President and Chief Operating Officer of Armstrong Garden Centers. “Our most sincere gratitude is to our customers for helping us continue his work for the past 125 years. This spring garden party is a way of saying thank you and we hope everyone will be excited about the new plants we will be introducing at our garden centers this season in celebration.”

Since the 1980s, Armstrong has been 100% employee owned. It also has its own growing division, which allows them complete control over plant quality at their stores.

The 125th Anniversary event will be from 4PM to 8PM at Long Beach Armstrong Garden Center, 3842 E. 10th St. The savings will be 20% off everything in the store for all customers, this includes all plants, patio furniture, grills, gardening accessories and tools, etc.
