The Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) is having a Dia de los Muertos celebration in the form of a fundraiser, a Noche de Ofrendas for supporters of the arts in Long Beach this Saturday. Attendees can enjoy traditional Mexican cuisine with a twist, Calavera face painting on-site, musical performances and much, much more.
Walk through a special exhibition of celebrity-inspired altars by actor Hector Elizondo, star of the highly anticipated film The Book of Life, filmmaker Sergio Arau (A Day Without a Mexican), lifestyle reporter and Good Day LA host Mar Yvette, television star Valente Rodriguez (The George Lopez Show), with more to be announced.
The altar exhibit was curated by Tony Dominguez, a man recognized as one of the greatest papier-mâché artists in the country.
A live theatrical performance of La Muerte Vive – Where rock Opera Meets Cabaret, produced by Dominguez and staring Santos de los Angeles and Ms. Ruby Champagne with special guest appearance by Demetrius Navarro (Friday, ER and Los Beltran), will raise you off your seat and have you swaying back and forth to the melancholy tune of the dead. Musical performances from Rocio Libertad Mendoza with Trio Alma y Alma, Casa de Calacas, Macondo y su Sonora and DJ Brazilia.
A silent auction featuring unique travel, art and entertainment packages, traditional Mexican cuisine with a twist, specialty tequila-based drinks created by Herradura’s star mixologist, Damian Diaz, Calavera face painting on-site and an interactive Día de los Muertos-themed social kiosk photo booth are just a few other reasons why this Noche de Ofrendas is absolutely worth the $125 to support one of our city’s most renowned institutions.
The celebration will take place this Saturday, October 25 from 7:00PM to 12:00AM, for the ticket price of $125, all of it going toward MOLAA’s exhibition and art education initiatives. Ticket price includes hosted food, drinks and entertainment. Cocktail attire and Dia de los Muertos attire strongly encouraged. Please note that this event is intended for an adult audience.
