Death by hemlock or hammer? Would you rather your victim suffer from respiratory failure or a blow to the head? Would you fathom your victim’s archenemy as a cunning criminal or a dope with the cruelest intentions?
Enter LB Confidential: A Night of Noir.
Crime fiction fans and writers will unite this Tuesday at the Federal Bar Speakeasy for an evening of morbid intoxication, food, and discussion with bestselling authors. A cocktail reception and panel discussion with five international bestselling crime fiction authors, Simon Wood, J.A. Jance, Edward Marston, Eoin Colfer and Jeffery Deaver will be the highlight of Noir.
This first-time public event will be held in honor of the upcoming Bouchercon 2014, an annual world mystery conference that will be held in Long Beach for the first time ever. Special tickets for five exclusive ten-guest dinners with each of the renowned authors mentioned above have sold rather quickly, however there are spots still available for a dinner with Edward Marston or Simon Wood.
The Long Beach Public Library Foundation has been chosen as the recipient charity for the proceeds from LB Confidential: A Night of Noir as well as Bouchercon 2014: Murder at the Beach. “The whole committee is trying to give back to our community,” explained Ingrid Willis, Bouchercon Chair. “We think it’s really important. That’s really what Bouchercon is about. Reading and getting people excited about reading. It’s not about selling your book, it’s about the camaraderie and the friendship and the fans.”
Each year the conference is held in a different city. This year’s conference being held in Long Beach is a testament to our city’s growing literary scene. The conference and of course, LB Confidential: A Night of Noir, gives writers and their avid readers a one-of-a-kind opportunity to meet and discuss crime fiction.
Wendy Hornsby, Long Beach resident and author of the Maggie MacGowen mysteries and the Kate Teague series said, “The Long Beach community has always been very supportive of writers, it’s a wonderful place for us. I am especially happy that the Long Beach Public Library is a beneficiary of this conference.”
Tickets for LB Confidential: A Night of Noir are $75 per person for the reception and $200 per person for the dinners, including the reception. The event will take place this Tuesday, November 11 at 6:00PM at The Federal Bar Speakeasy, located at 100 Pine Ave. Call Brown Paper Tickets at 800-838-3006 or purchase a ticket online to secure your place.
