The American Institute of Architects Long Beach/South Bay chapter (AIA LBSB) announced today that photographers can submit their work to its first-ever Architectural Photography Competition.
The competition was created in an effort to inspire appreciation of the built environment and the value of design. Anyone can submit photos between now and April 7. The public will then be able to vote online for their favorite photo during National Architecture Week April 8 – 14.
Submissions do not have to be of the Long Beach or South Bay areas, as long as they are of the built environment, according to AIA LBSB Executive Director Kristine Hammond.
However, Long Beach has plenty of eye-catching architecture to capture, from the city’s collection of historic buildings to recent constructions including downtown’s slew of ongoing developments.
The “People’s Choice” winner will be announced on April 17 and will be awarded $150 with their photo featured on the AIA website and social media channels. There will only be one awardee selected this time, but Hammond hopes to attract more people for future competitions to award first, second and third-place participants.
The $15 (for AIA members and students) and $25 (for everyone else) entry fees will offset the cost of running the program, as the AIA LBSB is a not-for-profit 501 C-6 organization, said Hammond.
