Don’t miss what longtime friends and creatives Scott Luhrs and Jorge Mujica have “imagined into life [as] their own little cave of art carefully crafted into an evening of laughter and truth.”
The two have announced that “Let the Good Times Roll,” a showcase thought of after the comedian and artist had noticed distinct parallels between their chosen art forms, will take place at MADE in Long Beach on Saturday, July 23 at 8:00PM. Comedy by Nate Craig of Last Comic Standing, Kevin Camia of Comedy Central and more will be performed alongside an art show featuring work by Juri Koll, a Venice Institute of Contemporary Art graduate, Miles Lewis of Valley Print Studio and Roxanna Martinez, who received her MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago.
“At its core, ‘Let the Good Times Roll’ is a microscope exploring freedom of expression,” stated Mujica. “The collaborative project aims to champion individual creativity and seeks artists and comedians who demonstrate multiple years of honing their craft.”
Local painter Mujica had completed a piece inspired by Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, which questions whether or not the world outside can be interpreted by the shadows reflected onto the cave’s interior, according to the release. Mujica’s work changes with the lighting in the room, as shadows change on a cave’s wall throughout the day, according to the artist.
After years doing stand up, Luhrs was inspired by Mujica’s piece and connected the story to his field, noting how an audience member’s personal experience with the comedian on stage is unique due to several factors. Luhrs, a respected Los Angeles-based comedian, is host to several shows including the Chatterbox Showcase. He also co-hosts the popular inside-comedy podcast, “Respect The Danger of Knives.”
“Art and stand up have changed the way I view the world, and I want to be able to share that with other people,” Luhrs said in a statement.
Let the Good Times Roll brings a diverse lineup of comedians from all over Los Angeles County to Made in Long Beach once every three months. Mujica invites artists to showcase their work at each show, whereas Luhrs reels in a diverse lineup of comedians.
