Long Beach-based podcast Unassuming Collective has invited the public to share their stories of joy during its second storytelling open mic at the Long Beach Public Library’s Main Branch on Tuesday, November 7.

Following the success of the first storytelling event at Fox Coffeehouse in July—where about 50 people attended, including the 10 who shared their stories—podcast creators Mariah Padilla and Alessandro Marquez decided to expand the event to a larger and more centrally-located venue.

“We are actively choosing to use our platform and our events as positive outlets for the community; we want to remind everyone they are important and they are being heard and that this is a safe place to share intimate stories,” Padilla stated.

The prompt for Unassuming Collective’s second event encourages storytellers to share “a moment that made you cry tears of joy.” The stories will be live-recorded and shared on the podcast after the event. All are welcome and encouraged to take the stage.

“There is so much tragedy on display in the media and so many tears are being shed as we grieve the recent events,” Padilla, host and creative director of the podcast, said in a statement. “But we want to focus on those tears that are born out of happiness and shed light on the beauty of those rare but special moments.”

The open mic will take place on Tuesday, November 7th from 5:30PM to 7:30PM in the auditorium at the Long Beach Public Library, Main. Parking is available in the structure at the corner of Broadway and Chestnut. With Library validation, parking is free for the first 30 minutes and is $1.75 for 2 hours. Maximum cost is $10.00.
