Alright, nerds of Long Beach, it’s time to craft your most creative cosplays and collectively leave your mother’s basements because the annual Long Beach Comic Con (LBCC) is back, and this year’s edition of the comic convention features more panels, star power and music than ever before.
Okay, so you totally don’t have to be a caricature of a nerd to attend LBCC, but for a first-timer, attending a comic convention can be daunting. LBCC 2017 welcomes new attendees with diverse panels welcoming vastly different inquisitive minds. Spotlighted panels cover a breadth of fandom ranging from My Little Pony and Deadpool to Galaxy Quest and Filipino Americans in Comics and Animation; you won’t be at a loss of things to find.
In addition to a bevy of writers and artists from the Big 2 (DC, Marvel) and indie publishers (Boom, Oni Press, etc.), attending this year’s comic convention will be legendary artist Dave Gibbons (Watchmen), actor William Shatner (Star Trek), and even Audrey Horne herself, Sherilyn Fenn (Twin Peaks).
If capes and tights and comics in general aren’t your thing (what the hell is the matter with you?) have no fear, Burger Records is here! The Fullerton-born record label will be at LBCC for the first time, hosting BURGER CON, a mini pop-up music festival of sorts featuring DJ Don Bolles and bands White Fang, The Zeros, Dwarves, and Nobunny. (It should be noted that tickets to Burger Con aren’t included in the passes for LBCC and must be purchased separately. Entering the promo code “Burger Con” on the LBCC ticket site will net you access to the inaugural event.)
The convention will also feature mainstays from years past, such as cosplay contests, fashion shows, the GeekFest filmfest and the Space Expo.
Long Beach Comic Con takes place at the Long Beach Convention Center, September 2 and 3, from 10:00AM to 5:00PM.
