See a new side of the Port of Long Beach (POLB) at this year’s port PHOTOGALLERY, where photographers have captured the beauty, yes the beauty, of the industrial economic machine residing in the backyards of each and every one of us Long Beach residents.

The photographs featured in the PHOTOGALLERY, an exhibit opening at the Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) on Sunday, October 4, are the products of a workshop taught by port photographers, followed by a twilight shoot during a special harbor boat tour.

89 beginning, amateur and professional photographers participated in the adventure. Both the workshop and behind-the-scenes port tour took place in August, while the participants then submitted their best pieces for the juried gallery exhibit.

The goal of the program is to promote cultural arts through photography for Long Beach Arts Month, a project of the Arts Council for Long Beach, according to the announcement. Held annually in October, the city’s celebration coincides with National Arts and Humanities Month, while other happenings during October include art shows, world-class museum exhibits, live music festivals and other cultural events.

This exhibit marks the third consecutive year the port has teamed with the Arts Council to bring a eye-opening perspectives of the port to the public’s view. This year’s collaboration adds another partner, the Museum of Latin American Art, where the photographs will be displayed in The Port to Learning gallery.

“We appreciate the Port’s vision in inviting 89 photographers to show us their creative view of the Port,” said Victoria Bryan, executive director of the Arts Council. “Each photographer who went out on the boat tour has at least one photo in the exhibition so we look forward to seeing the port we think we know, in entirely new ways!”

The public is invited to come see this unique viewpoint of port operations. The exhibit is located at MOLAA at 628 Alamitos Avenue. The show will run from October 4 to January 3 and is open for viewing from 11:00AM to 5:00PM Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday and 11:00AM to 9:00PM Friday.

“We are so excited to be partnering with the Port of Long Beach and the Museum of Latin American Art on the third year of The Port of Long Beach PHOTOGALLERY,” said Bryan.
