The Long Beach Cinematheque has partnered with the Long Beach Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center to present the award winning silent film, The Artist, with a brand new original score.

The screening is taking place outside, under the stars, on the rooftop of the Long Beach Arena parking structure on Tuesday, July 30 at 8PM.

Logan Crow, Executive Director of Long Beach Cinematheque, explained that the relationship with the CVB began organically.

“My relationship with the CVB started when, shortly after meeting Steve Goodling and sharing our visions for Long Beach, it dawned on me that he’d make the perfect King for our Mardi Gras Parade. The CVB does so much to put Long Beach on the map, but it seemed to me they don’t seem so concerned about making sure they get a ton of recognition. I think it’s important to take time to acknowledge leaders like that.

“At some point, we got to talking about movies, and Steve had this great idea about putting outdoor movies on the rooftop of the Arena’s parking lot. It’s a space he is very excited about, in terms of the vast possibilities that businesses and community groups can bring to the table to use as a wonderful venue under the stars. When I told him that we’d have to rent the equipment, he generously offered to sponsor half of the cost to set the Cinematheque up with an outdoor screening system of our own. Our friends at Shoreline Village matched that pledge, and we’re so happy that this event, right at the Convention and Entertainment Center, will mark our first use of this equipment.”

In the video interview, Alyssandra Nighswonger and members of the Balboa Amusement Company Orchestra rehearse, and speak about the process of creating the score.
