ArtPEACE, a collaboration between the City’s Human Dignity office and The Creativity Network, is an ambitious mentoring program designed to connect the creative community with at-risk kids.  The official kick-off is Wednesday, October 1st, which marks the beginning of both Arts and Diversity months.  This weekend, however, they’re participating in two pre-launch events.

The first, taking place this Saturday, is in conjunction with We Love Long Beach, which is hosting a barbeque at Bixby Park, located at 130 Cherry Avenue between Ocean and Broadway.  There, from 1-5 PM, kids can contribute to an ‘infinite’ mural.

Also on Saturday from 1-5 PM is a Project Oasis art making event at the Fairfield YMCA, located at 4949 Atlantic Avenue.  There, young people will be creating a montage of prepared hardboard surfaces with peace symbols and messages.  The montage will be unveiled the following Friday evening as part of Bixby Knolls First Fridays.

ArtPEACE will have a significant presence at next weekend’s University By The Sea event, so keep Sunday, October 5th open.  More details will follow.
