Toaster Music, in partnership with the Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association (BKBIA) is proud to present a new exhibition featuring Long Beach artist Sheriann Ki Sun Burnham. Tradigital Vistas at the Expo Art Center will feature a cross section of the artist’s work, including early images made using the software she wrote herself and more recent work that combines digital printmaking with natural materials.

Tradigital Vistas’ opening will take place on September 4 at 6:30PM during the First Fridays Art Walk in Bixby Knolls, while in the South Gallery of the Expo Arts Center, Katie Phillips, cofounder of Squeeze Art Collective, Heather Proctor, muralist and painter and artists Alex Diffin and Esmeralda Villalobos will each display work in a group exhibition.

This event will include three Toaster Music 30-minute performance sets at the top of each hour, starting at 7:00PM and will feature the lithe performers of Maha and Company Dancers.

Burnham’s ethereal sculptural forms and images echo natural forms and structures, yet remain completely abstract. She says whether she’s using the computer or not, her work is ultimately based on nature and landscapes.

“I find with the computer I am capable of creating imagery that echoes natural forms and structures, yet is totally abstract,” Burnham told the Post. “The computer is a many-faceted tool and each piece I finish leads to new ideas to explore.”

Although she has had a couple “so-called ‘solo’” shows in the past, Burnham says this will be the first time she’s been able to display a large body of work at one place and time in a gallery setting. She hopes that those who view the exhibit will be able to enjoy and explore the different worlds in each piece.

“I try to create art that speaks for itself, and the viewer does not need to know the technical methods used to create the work to enjoy the final outcome,” Burnham said. 

But you don’t have to wait until First Fridays on September 4 to see the show. Gallery goers can check out Burnham’s work this Friday, August 28 during a preview of the new exhibition from 7:00PM to 9:00PM. Toaster Music will provide, quite fittingly, improvised ambient music in the background.

The Expo Arts Center is located at 4321 Atlantic Avenue, and is operated by the BKBIA in a public private partnership with the City of Long Beach.
