The Found Theatre knows a good cause when it finds it. Thus is one of Long Beach’s older artistic establishments throwing open its doors to help out one of the city’s older charitable organizations, Arts & Services for the Disabled (ASD).
According to an event press release, the Friday benefit for ASD “will feature the first film festival in Southern California dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of the lives, stories and artistic expressions of people with different abilities. Featured films will include Hot Air Love, Watch Out for the Fire and other new American cinema from emerging filmmakers.”
Also included on the evening’s program is a concert by the HollywoodCanteen SwingBand, a 16-piece band specializing in classic 1940s swing tunes by Louie Prima, Duke Ellington and other classic composers.
Arts & Services for the Disabled is a nonprofit organization that for the last 30 years has “provide[d] life-long learning, community service and career opportunities through the creative arts for [adults] with disabilities in an environment of warmth, encouragement, and respect [by way of] arts-based education and therapy in the areas of communication, community inclusion, psycho-emotional development, positive and adaptive social behavior, and basic life skills.”
The “No Limits” Film Festival & Big Band Concert takes place 8PM Friday, November 2, at the Found Theatre (599 Long Beach Blvd., LB 90802). Tickets: $90 in advance, $100 at the door. All proceeds go to Arts & Services for Disabled; tickets are tax deductible. To purchase tickets and for more information, call 562.982.0247 or visit artsandservices.org.
