11:29am | First District City Councilmember Robert Garcia and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine are inviting the community to the grand opening of the 14th Street Park basketball courts on Saturday, September 24, at 11:00am. A short ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 14th Street between Pine and Locust Avenues before the courts open for public play.

The new facility has one full-size court and three half courts with new surfacing, seating, and lights for evening play. The courts were funded with $140,000 from the office of Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe.

“I’m looking forward to playing some pick-up games with some of the neighborhood kids,” said Councilmember Garcia. ā€œIā€™m very grateful to Supervisor Knabe and our Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine for making this possible.ā€

The 2.01-acre 14th Street Park stretches from Chestnut Avenue to Locust Avenue, and features open space, a playground and the Michael K. Green Skate Park between Pine and Pacific Avenues.
