Crystal Antlers headline the popular live music competition on Saturday night.
Büsker Dü
4:15pm | Way too many bands played Buskerfest for this easily distracted photographer to record a comprehensive gallery of the days events.
I started on track grabbing photos of Boris Smile at the end of Linden where it meets Broadway but just then a kid went tearing by towards First Street screaming they were giving away free ice cream!
In retrospect a cute photo of a kid with melting ice cream dripping off his hands and face would have been the ideal shot to include here but nobody, far as I know, took my picture.
I caught the lovely Jenny Stockdale playing across the way but even her golden voice crooning wasn’t enough to hold my attention. Not when a man standing at the cross section of Linden and First was about to set himself ON FIRE!
I watched as bands left the various stages to be replaced by new ones and I told myself there would still be time after I watched this one-man geek show pound a 6-inch nail into HIS HEAD! Problem was I had to wait while he inhaled balloons through his nostril before he got to the bloody stuff. COMEONCOMEONCOMEONALREADY!
Finally the sideshow performer known as Lucky John took a break and I made my way over to 60-Watt Kid. I’ve always loved their sound and was looking forward to devoting my full attention to at least one of the bands in competition for the top prize of time in a recording studio.
Then I head the rattle of chains and I knew I couldn’t quit that sweaty-headed freak back in front of the Best Western. But before he went at it with the chains it was up the nose with more balloons. I love you Lucky John but maybe an intervention is in order here.
Well, I missed the rest of the busker bands, which left the main stage entertainers. Jay Buchanan was great, again. Finally saw the Crystal Antlers after numerous misses and they were great as well.
As a capper to the night I missed the Delta Spirit. Well, sort of. The sound of them rocking for the 4,500 people in attendance came in through my window and serenaded me on the couch where I lay wondering why I didn’t get more free ice cream for later.
