To celebrate the most important holiday for the Cambodian community, the Cambodian Coordinating Council (Cam-CC) announced this year’s events, the Cambodian New Year Parade and Celebration.

Cam-CC will host the Fifth Annual Cambodian New Year Parade on Sunday, April 5, 2009 along Anaheim Street, in the heart of the Cambodian community or Cambodia Town. It begins at 9:30 am with an interfaith program at the intersection of Junipero Avenue and Anaheim Street. The Cambodian New Year Parade is an exciting, fun-filled event, which will display unique and colorful floats, traditional and modern Cambodian dancers, musicians, pedicabs and cyclos. We expected over 15,000 visitors come together from all over the United States and Cambodia to join this event. The parade will honor the diversity of Long Beach through the varieties of floats and participants of all backgrounds and ethnicities.

Following the parade, Cam-CC will then host the Cambodian New Year Celebration at El Dorado Regional Park Area 3 on Saturday, April 25, 2009 from 9am to 5pm. We expect people to travel locally as well as internationally to attend this special occasion with our community here in Long Beach. The Cambodian New Year Celebration is an all day event, which includes religious ceremonies, exotic food, carnival games, face painting for kids, live performances, Khmer traditional performance, plays, and a live band with famous Khmer singers performing throughout the day. Admission tickets if purchase prior to the event are $23 per vehicle and $7 for parking. Tickets will be available at a number of Cambodian restaurants and businesses throughout Long Beach. See http://www.cam-cc.org for a complete list of locations.

Come and celebrate Cambodian New Year with us. These two events will attract the largest number of Cambodians outside of Cambodia. The Cambodian New Year is about reunion, family, and prosperity. On behalf of Cam-CC, we would like to wish you a Happy Cambodian New Year or Sur Sdey Chnam Thmey.

We are now accepting entry applications for parade and booth applications for organizations and vendors for both events. Please contact Phannarith An or Ron Sok, Event Coordinator at 562-326-3797 or [email protected] for more information.
