10:37 | For the Child’s Child Abuse Response Teams (CART) is looking for volunteers to serve a requested one year commitment.

CART volunteers respond to daytime as well as night-time and weekend crisis calls when a young child, infant to 14 years of age, has been recently sexually abused.

They are part of the larger Sexual Assault Response Team which includes forensic nurses, law enforcement and potentially the Department of Children and Family Services and the District Attorney’s office.  Our team member serves as the child advocate and meets the child at area hospitals with teddy bears, games and information to help them through the medical exam.  They also provide parents with information and referrals for assistance.

The team rotates coverage and schedules to accommodate the need and members time availability. Forty hours of training is required.

The 40 hour training will begin on Tuesday evening August 23rd at 6 p.m. at the facility at 4565 California Avenue, Long Beach – it will last for 3 hours. A potential volunteer must be interviewed before that meeting and have begun the screening process (fingerprinting, DMV, references).
