On Saturday, November 7, Pine Avenue will close to traffic between Sixth and Seventh streets, in preparation for the Second Annual Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Celebration in Long Beach.

The long-celebrated Mexican holiday, with its signature skull iconography, will be presented by Councilmember Lena Gonzalez in the First District on Pine Avenue from 5:00PM to 10:00PM.

“Dia de los Muertos has become a much anticipated event that many people enjoy all over the world, and now we are bringing it back to Long Beach,” said Gonzalez in a statement. “I’m glad that families, residents and tourists can enjoy this new Downtown tradition of culture and music.

The agenda for the festivities includes live performances by Los Rakas, La Banda Skalavera, Very Be Careful, Casi Son and DJ Ra, in addition to traditional folklorico dancers, face painters, decorated altars, food, arts and crafts, a kid zone and more.

Free parking is available to participants at the City Place parking structure. Other parking lots close to the celebration include Lot A: 50 East Sixth Street (entrance on Sixth and Fifth Streets) or Lot B: 50 East Fifth Street (entrance on Fifth and Fourth Streets). The city encourages public transportation.
