Dozens of Long Beach police and fire vehicles will be on display this Saturday at the inaugural “Long Beach Touch-a-Truck” event in Belmont Shore.
Families will be able to sit in the driver’s seat of most vehicles, including a 1930 British double-decker bus and various construction vehicles, allowing for an up-close and personal look at the heavy machinery.
“I wanted to put on this type of event to allow kids and adults to get up close to big trucks, tractors, and construction equipment that they may only see from a distance,” said event organizer Justin Rudd.
The free event will include hot dogs grilled by the Long Beach Firefighters Local 372, music by Jazz Angels, and a LEGO play corral provided by the Long Beach LEGO User Group.
More than 2,500 people have registered for the event as of Tuesday afternoon, slated to begin at 9:30AM with a VIP session at 9AM for children with disabilities and special needs, and for Long Beach Boys & Girls Club members.
Festivities will be held on the beachfront parking lot at Granada Avenue, with free parking at Granada Beach. The public can enter the parking lot at 1 Granada Avenue or 1 Bennett Avenue.
The event is co-sponsored by City Councilwoman Suzie Price and the nonprofit Community Action Team (CAT).
