1:30pm | Outside of direct patient care that involves their physical care, hospitals are recognizing more and more the importance of maintaining healthy mental statuses within their patients. The Patient Family Advisory Council (PFAC), an advocacy council that strengthens communication and collaboration amongst patients, families, caregivers, and staff, is one of the most important contributors to this belief at Long Beach Memorial.

In order to best promote patient and family advocacy and involvement, the council coordinates special programs that help patients get through their physical ailments via emotional, social, and interactive support. Health care professionals also serve on PFAC to bring a professional and collaborative approach. Many members offer their volunteer services as a way to “give back” for the excellent care given to them. From such experiences, council members share their stories, awareness, perceptions and understanding of this collaborative partnership.

And what better way to do that this time of year than have a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Clause?

Family-centered care is a cornerstone of Long Beach Memorial given that research indicates having family, friends, and special visits improves recovery time. Hospitalization can be an overwhelming experience, even for adults, and especially during the holidays — and this special visit only helps alleviate the stress of Long Beach’s patients.
