It seems that, as the Holiday season unfolds, more and more wonderful cultural opportunities reveal themselves.  For example, this Friday is the monthly First Friday event in Bixby Knolls, which will have a tree and menorah lighting ceremony at 7 PM at Nino’s Italian Restaurant, followed by a whole series of festivities at area businesses.

In preview tomorrow is Green Piece, an original theatrical production of 6 stories gleaned from more than 1500 myths, performed by The University Players at CSULB’s Studio Theatre.  Written by Anne D’Zmura, the play inspires environmental activism.  Tickets and times are available through the school’s Theatre Department.

The Long Beach Community Foundation announced that an annual stragegic grant of $25,000 has been awarded to the Long Beach Bar Foundation, which has designed and implemented a new program called ArtStart that works in conjunction with the popular and successful SHORTSTOP program.  The program is utilzing the talents and resources of Gallery 11/7, including mosaic artist Robin Bott, beloved artist and educator Thea Robertshaw, artist Maria McCloud, and jewelery designer Josaphine Marie.  Watch for more about this exciting collaboration.

Antonio Pedro Ruiz, co-founder of The Creativity Network, hosted a panel discussion on Monday to review the progress, challenges, and opportunities of the Creative Community as a follow-up to last year’s televised town hall meeting, Re-Imagining The Arts in Long Beach.  The lively and insightful discussion will be available next week.
