It’s technically the last weekend of summer. And this time of year, beyond bringing with it shades of orange to the leaves that aren’t of the palm variety, carries a slew of end-of-summer events for all to enjoy in the Long Beach vicinity.

Saddle up. It’s time to savor this last session of summahtime goodness.

Today’s NATIONAL CHEESEBURGER DAY. Carpe the rest of this precious 24-hour celebration with an array of meaty, cheesy deliciousness exhibited by the drool-worthy menu items described in Asia Morris’ writeup, all from local joints throughout the city. Grab a Kobe Beef Arugula Burger from Berlin Bistro, or take your pick at one of those George Foreman burgers from MVP’s. Those don’t strike your fancy? There’s more to choose from. Read up and find those beef (or beef-less) patties, dammit. You know you’re hungry.

Tonight, the End of Summer Concert in the Park will bring the ’80s tribute band, Knyght Ryder to the Third District, thanks to a collaboration between Councilwoman Suzie Price and Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, picnic baskets and dancing shoes to Marine Stadium Park this Friday, September 18 from 6:00PM to 7:30PM.

This year’s Folk Revival Festival commences tomorrow! The all-day event, scheduled to take place on Saturday from 11:00AM to 11:00PM, features headliner Deer Tick and will include a beard contest, gourmet food, craft beers, an interactive kid’s area, and a Vintage Bazaar shopping experience. The festival will be held at Rainbow Lagoon Park, across from Shoreline Village and the Marina in downtown. Get into a fitness frenzy on Saturday with the Long Beach Fitness Festival, from 8:00AM to 7:00PM at the Marina Green, just off Shoreline Drive. Brought to you by Legendary Competitor, an event company that hosts athletic events aimed to bring out the best and healthiest competitor in you, the fitness festival will feature an entire day filled with various health, fitness, and fun activities for the entire family. This will be the second year the event has taken place on the Marina Green. Tickets are $15 per person over 10 years of age for access to the competitions, vendors, fun zone, beer garden and affiliate area; however, all beach activities are open to the public and do not require admission. For event details, links to register for competitions, and Sponsor/Vendor information, click here.

On Sunday at 7:00PM, Phare, The Cambodian Circus, will perform at California State University, Long Beach’s Carpenter Performing Arts Center. This fall marks the first U.S. tour for Phare, which was founded in 1994 in Battambang, Cambodia by survivors of the Khmer Rouge. The selected performance, Khmer Metal was designed to showcase the country’s “positive” young population, which is growing rapidly, as well as the issues they face on a daily basis—issues such as alcoholism, sexuality, drugs and interpersonal relationships in a rapidly-developing country that has emerged, resilient, from a troubled past. Check out the face of the new Cambodia and enjoy the acrobatic feats on display. Click here to purchase tickets online.
