Hey all you food lovers, I wanted to drop a quick note on some awesome meals that I had this weekend. Long Beach Racers, a group of buddies that race a Toyota Tacoma in Off-Road events, traveled down to San Felipe this past weekend to race the San Felipe 250. We had a great weekend and came in second in the race, but we also ate some amazing food as we always do south of the border. When you are in Mexico you eat like a king on a pauper’s budget. That is part of what I love so much about going down there.
The first night we headed into town and ate at Chewy’s Place. I had the Shrimp Diablo and it was kick ass. Spicy and wonderful. We drank Pacifico and had a wonderful time. Everybody ate and drank, and I am talking about 20 people here, and the bill was all of US$190. How can you beat that??? So from there we went out drinking at the Back Street Bar. This is a little place that is owned by an American expatriate. They have great tequila, cheep beers, and a really fun atmosphere. Now after getting a little buzz on, we did indulge in street tacos and border dogs; it was deliciously sinful.
On Saturday we put the truck through tech and then rolled on down to the food. We had fish tacos, shrimp tacos, shrimp Costa Azul, coconut shrimp, carne asada tacos, and let’s not forget more Pacifico. Shrimp Costa Azul is one of my favorite things to eat on the coast of the Sea of Cortez. It is shrimp (big ones) that is wrapped in cheese, ham, and bacon and then deep fried. It is the Mexican Heart Stopper, but so good you just can’t get enough.
One other shout-out that I want to give is to El Toro II. This is the best breakfast place that you will find in the city of San Felipe. They have chorizo with eggs, machaca with eggs, and pancakes to die for. Even better, they have real coffee and fresh orange juice to wash down your huevos. If you are ever in San Felipe, take it from the fat kids: find Chewy’s place and El Toro II and I promise that you will not be disappointed.
Till Next Time, Keep Eating Long Beach.
