I don’t know if anyone else has noticed, but all these little breakfast places that we love can also be very expensive. Most of the places are cash only and spending 25 bucks for some eggs, meat, and toast is not always easy to swallow. Well, Dianne and I were out running the Saturday morning errands recently and we decided to get a bite at the Bellflower Diner. This was my fourth or fifth time eating here and I always leave satisfied, and so does my wallet.
Located on Bellflower Blvd. in downtown Bellflower, Bellflower Diner is a small family-run establishment that feels like sitting at your grandmother’s kitchen table. The servers, all part of the family, are very helpful. They serve all of the normal breakfast fare, but also have a very extensive omelet selection. They have the big booths in the middle of the room, and if someone is only using half, then just sit on down and join the party. You will soon have a cup of coffee in front of you, and a friendly face asking for you order.
I have feasted on a few of the different omelets here and can never finish the whole plate of food. The Meateater is great and right up the Boneman’s alley. The Cordon Blue is my favorite and sports a three egg omelet filled with turkey, then covered with diced ham and Swiss cheese. The flavors all come together to throw a party in your mouth.
The hashbrowns that the Bellflower Diner slings on the side are wonderful too. They are shredded potatos with a colorful array of bell peppers and onions, all fired to a perfect crisp. They make an already tasty meal a memorable one.
Dianne loves breakfast burritos, and will always order one if it is on the menu. On this occasion she got the XXL Breakfast Burrito. It was huge (read: took up the entire plate). It was filled with sausage, ham, Canadian bacon, bacon (the American kind) and the seasoned hashbrowns. She ate on it the entire time I was eating mine and still boxed up half of the monster to take home, and the best part was that it was only $5.99.
If you are looking for a place to get a big delicious breakfast at a reasonable price, get over to the Bellflower Diner. They are only open for breakfast and lunch, so make it before 2pm or you will be making another trip.
