On the corner of Atlantic and Wardlow sits a small burger shack that made me very happy last week–Dave’s Burgers. I have lived in Long Beach for ten years and never noticed this place. Don’t underestimate its size. If you’re on foot, then walk right up and place your order, but if you’re driving, don’t blink or you will miss it.

Hungry from a light lunch and wanting an afternoon snack, I ordered a cheeseburger from the highly limited menu of burgers and dogs. No fries or frills here, just burgers and dogs. I was delighted to find this place–a funky little building surrounded by some old picnic benches located in nothing other than a Chevron station parking lot. So cool!

After paying the inexpensive price of $3.20, my delight continued. When the burger was ready and I began to eat, the experience became pure joy.

I’ve said it before–I’m a huge fan of burgers. Dave’s Burgers is now on my list of favorites. Why? This quaint, simple and inexpensive establishment produces burgers that are absolutely delicious. The method is basic: cook the meat on a flat grill, thereby maintaining the much-desired juiciness, use fresh ingredients, allow customization, and keep the culinary art focused. Therefore no fries, no onion rings and no salads.

As you can see from the photos, the menu is indeed a quick glance. If you are looking for a quick, easily accessible cheeseburger, hot dog or chicken burger, pull into the Chevron station on Atlantic Ave just north of the 405. You won’t be disappointed.
