The Milk Barn, located on the southwest corner of Bellflower Blvd and Del Amo, is another one of those “if you didn’t know it was there you would drive right by” kind of places. I was introduced to this place, like many other places, by my buddy Nick Moncure while we were on our way to the freeway for a long trek for Mexico. I was impressed then, and continue to be each time I go back (it’s a weekly affair for me).
So here is the deal. The place sits behind a drive-thru dairy. By the way, I love drive-thru dairies; we had one in La Verne when I was growing up, and it was great. You got to sit in your car and the dude would go and do the shopping for you while you sat there with the A/C running. Not too many of those left around. Anyhow, the dairy is actually the Milk Barn and the place behind it is where the goodness comes from. There are a few picnic tables, an order window, and a pick up window. The menu is on the wall, and the specials are on the board out front.
There are many different ways that you can get a sandwich. I like to get a mortadella and salami (one of the tastes that I acquired from my father) with provolone and all the fixings. Some other favorites include The Milk Barn Special, the hot pastrami, the obligatory meatball, and a delicious Italian sausage and peppers. On the cold sandwiches, unless you are picky, just get it with everything on it: Mayo, Mustard, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Oil and Vinegar, Olives, and chopped pepperoncinis on the softest, most delicious roll in town. Man, I think I am going to stop there on my way home from the office today.
So if you are in the area, stop in and get yourself a sandwich, pizza, or pasta and get ready to be delighted, but make sure you bring CASH as they do not take cards. You can also call in your orders and they will have it ready for you when you get there. Tell them that LB Food Review sent ya.
