When it comes to tasty places to eat that are open 24/7/365, the pickin’s are pretty slim. Thankfully we have the Harbor House just down the road in Sunset Beach, serving up delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals to people anytime of the day or night since 1939. I started my late night excursions to the Harbor House in college, rolling in there with five or six people at 2:30 am to eat our faces off. Nowadays we are much smarter about transportation logistics, and tend to keep it to later night dinners and cravings at more reasonable times.

As you walk in the front door the sign usually says “seat yourself”. There are a plethora of booths and tables in the front room, but if you need more space or if the place seems full, walk on back to the heated patio and find a table. Once you get seated and order your drinks you will find that choosing what to eat is going to be a tough proposition. The menu is about 10 pages long and boasts near endless possibilities, including standard breakfast foods, an entire page of specialty omelets, burgers, salads, seafood, Mexican, Italian -.etc. It is going to take a little while but I recommend that you look through the entire thing.

I have been through the entire menu, but I am a breakfast person and if I can get a good breakfast meal then it does not matter what time of the day it is, I am going to order something with eggs. I have a special place in my fat heart and belly for the three-egg omelets at Harbor House. I have tried many of the different variations, but my favorites are the California and the Chili Cheese. The California is stuffed full of turkey, bacon, avocado, and cheese. Served with your choice of potatoes, I enjoy ordering the Hobo Potatoes which are the hash browns with the addition of onions, bell pepper and mushrooms. The Chili Cheese Omelet is pretty self explanatory. The home made chili that they use is incredible and sure to please.

As far as their other creations besides breakfast, I have yet to find something that I did not like. The bacon avocado cheese burger is fantastic, served on a big bun with portions of bacon and avocado that will make even the most critical of diners happy. All of the meals come with more food then you can eat and the prices are reasonable, with most falling in the $10-$12 range. There are two locations, in Sunset Beach and Dana Point. Get on over to the Harbor House the next time you need to eat at an odd hour, and I am sure you will be headed over during normal hours very soon after.
