10:20am | Local non-profit organization – and frequent lbpost.com contributors – We Love Long Beach will host another of their patented neighborhood breakfasts this Saturday, this time venturing up north to Houghton Park from 8:30am-10:30am.

We Love Long Beach started hosting these breakfasts and barbeques more than two years ago with the simple goal of creating bonds between neighbors, many of whom had lived near each other for years and never met. After several events held near Belmont Shore, the group has openly expressed the desire to expand to the rest of the city and will start with this weekend in North Long Beach. The picnic tables at Houghton Park right next to Jordan High School are especially crowded this time of year, and neighbors from all around the area are invited to enjoy pancakes, eggs, sausages and much more. For free!

As an added bonus for residents looking to get involved in their neighborhood, recently elected 9th District Councilmember Steve Neal will host an informal community meeting called “Imagine 9th District” from 10:30am-12:00pm. Neal hopes to create an atmosphere of communication and listening to discuss the issues and future visions for the district. Former Councilmember Val Lerch, whom Neal defeated in the election this summer, has sent out e-mails in support of this effort and asked for others to join. “Please get the word out and all show up to let our new Councilmember know we support him and our community,” Lerch said.
