If it seemed like music festival season had all but passed over Long Beach this year, you’re in luck. Two one-day music festivals are piling into the Queen Mary Events Park back-to-back this summer with the return of the Freestyle Festival on Saturday, Aug. 20 and the debut of the Jukebox Festival Sunday, Aug. 21.

Both festivals promise a day of multi-genre music, featuring hit artists from the 1980s through the early 2000s who made lasting marks in the pop, reggae, rock, hip-hop and rhythm and blues music worlds.

The Freestyle Festival on Aug. 20 is the larger of the two with 24 acts expected to perform with a headlining cast including ’80s pop sensations Lisa Lisa (of Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam), Taylor Dayne and Exposé.

Past Freestyle Festivals have been held in Long Beach, but last year the festival was put on in Norco. Now going on its 20th year, organizers sought to bring their annual dose of nostalgia back to the Queen Mary “while we still have her,” organizers’ said.

To be clear, the festival will be held in the space adjacent to the Queen Mary (also known as the Harry Bridges Memorial Park), though some of the festival will spill into the Queen Mary parking lot. Attendees can expect plenty of food, drinks and a ferris wheel, with a fireworks show to close out the night.

Tickets for Freestyle Festival start at $79. Click here for more information and to purchase tickets.

The new Jukebox Festival the following day, on Aug. 21, will headline Shabba Ranks, one of the most famous Jamaican dancehall musicians in the world, and Billboard-topping American rapper Rick Ross. Also expected to take stage is R&B ’90s superstars Tony! Toni! Toné!, R&B darling Shanice and eight other acts. Click here to see the full lineup.
