2:45pm | On the heels of an outstanding FunkFest last weekend, the latest event in the ever-popular Summer And Music series will strum its way into downtown Long Beach tonight with hip-hop violinist Paul Dateh and DJ Inka One bring their fantastic fusion to the streets.
Dateh has become an internet sensation for his skills as a violinist, but not in the classical sense. By using his instrument to play popular Top 40 songs from pop and hip-hop, he’s able to bring fans their favorite songs in a way that they’ve never heard them before. Dateh and DJ Inka One will perform tonight at 7:00pm and on Saturday at 7:00pm at the corner of Ocean and Lime Avenue. Click the video below to see one of his recent performances.
The performances are part of the unveiling of a new public arts piece, that will temporarily be exhibited on land that is planned for development in the near future. While the mixed-use residential tower is still in the planning phase, the crane-and-lace canopy art project by Los Angeles based group Greenmeme. It’s resemblance to the lumber and rope of a harbor is a harkening back to Long Beach’s history as a port town. The piece, Urban Arts: Chantilly Clad, will debut at 5:00pm today followed by a panel discussion on public art.
