Dignitaries and local officials—along with a few young soccer players—celebrated the opening of Long Beach’s newest park Tuesday morning, a 3.3-acre space in North Long Beach.

The park, located at 4951 Oregon Ave., features a sports field, playground, restroom facilities, a walking path, playground equipment, picnic tables and other amenities. It came about as part of an agreement with the developers of the Riverdale residential tract.

The park is named after C. David Molina, the late physician and founder of Molina Medical Centers, which later became Molina Healthcare. He died in 1996 at age 70.

Two of Molina’s children were at the celebration, including Dr. Mario Molina and Janet Molina-Watt.

The public is invited to attend a grand opening celebration for C. David Molina Park, on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at 9:30 a.m., located at 4951 Oregon Avenue. The park is named for Dr. C. David Molina who started the city’s first intensive care unit at Pacific Hospital in 1962 and served as the hospital’s Emergency Department Director for 21 years.

Editor’s Note: C. David Molina is the father of John Molina, a major investor in Pacific 6, the parent company of the Long Beach Post.
