Over 1,000 corgis took to the Long Beach shoreline on Saturday, making it a record-breaking SoCal Corgi Beach Day event for the dogs, owners and fans who descended on Rosie’s Dog Beach for a little fun in the sun.
The corgis basked in the limelight, as their fans and followers treated their canine companions like it was their day, as paparazzi-like crowds surrounded each corgi’s activities.
“This was by far our biggest and best So Cal Corgi Beach Day yet,” said co-organizer Kelly McLemore. “We had people come from all over the United States, as far away as Canada.”

It was a patriotic paw-ty, to say the least, as dogs Cooper and Corgi Zero won the Corgi Costume Contest with their “Corg Washington” costume, dressed as determined corgis crossing the Potomac. Poppy the Heart Butt Corgi and her owner Marisa Flores took home the trophy for best Corgi/Human Costume Duo Contest, for their Lady Liberty and corgi-as-torch ensemble.
Kiki the corgi won the event’s inaugural Corgi Watermelon-eating Contest, Poppy the Heart Butt Corgi won a second prize for the Talent Contest with a balancing act, a tiny corgi mix won the Limbo Contest, and last, but not least, the trophy for Best Momo was bestowed upon the voluptuous Lucky, an 18-year-old rescue from Queen’s Best Stumpy Dog Rescue.
The next SoCal Corgi Beach Day will take place on Saturday, October 29 at Huntington Dog Beach.
