The first-ever Green Prize Festival will take over Bixby Park all day Saturday for seven hours of free music, food, technology and education, all of which will celebrate the environmentally friendly efforts of Long Beach’s chef’s, artists and businesses.

Screen shot 2014-04-25 at 11.56.16 AMA spinoff of last year’s Green Prix–which turned North Pine into a roving eco-friendly festival complete with many of the same amenities that will be present this weekend–the Green Prize Festival aims to highlight the many ways in which green living is being advocated citywide in a single day timed around Earth Day, which was April 22.

In addition to a live music stage curated by Long Beach Independent, the festival will include green vendors, a free bike valet, farm-to-table meals, a beer garden and food trucks as well as children’s activities. Three hours of workshops and speakers–from Ryan Serrano of Foodscape Long Beach to Yogalution owner Dharma Shakti–are also planned, but the highlight of the fest will be the presentation of the Green Prize Awards.

“In an effort to highlight and promote local achievements in sustainability and to create a more environmentally focused city, not only on Earth Day but everyday, we are proud to introduce the Green Prize annual award program,” said Green Prize Founder Stella Ursua of Green Education. “This prestigious award will honor those illustrating excellence insustainability within the city of Long Beach, whether it be an individual, school, neighborhood, restaurant, nonprofit, business, or governmental body.”

Green Prize Fest is being presented in collaboration with Leadership Long Beach and Green Long Beach!
