The unsung heroes of Long Beach’s hotels, restaurants, tour companies and more, who take care of the visitors and residents alike spending time and a dime in this seaside city, will have a chance to be recognized during the first-ever Long Beach Hospitality Alliance (LBHA) Awards.
Set to take place at the Hotel Maya on September 27, the LBHA will be accepting nominations for 13 special recognition categories via the link here. Nominations will close on July 31.
“Those who work in our city’s hospitality industry are eligible to nominate someone in one of the 13 special recognition categories,” Pam Ryan, co-founder of LBHA and general manager at the Renaissance Long Beach in downtown, said in a statement. “These awards are meant to be merit-based with nominees selected by their supervisors and peers.”
Categories include:
- Rising Star Award
- Unsung Hero Award
- Beyond the Call of Duty
- Lifetime Achievement
- Community Spirit Award
- Sustainability Award
- Hotel Award
- Restaurant Award
- Entrepreneur Award
- Special Event Award
- Innovation in Hospitality
- Supplier Award
- Housekeeping Award
Following the conclusion of the nomination process, a panel of five judges will review nominees and select the winners, which will be announced at the awards ceremony in September. The top winners in each category will be informed by August 28.
A consortium of local leaders working in the industry, LBHA was formed last year with the mission to advocate, educate and celebrate Long Beach’s community of hospitality workers. The inaugural LBHA awards will further shine a spotlight on the personalities going above and beyond to make Long Beach a great place to stay.
“The Long Beach workforce I know have given their hearts to their work and their customers,” Fifth District Councilwoman Stacy Mungo, who is an advocate for new job opportunities, said in a statement. “That hometown commitment is an important part of what makes us great, and I’m looking forward to recognizing the best of our very best.”
“Our city’s hotels, restaurants and special events are a significant part of what make Long Beach such a great destination,” Ryan said in a statement. “The Hospitality Awards were conceived to recognize those working at these venues that help to make the Long Beach experience so memorable.”
The LBHA Awards will begin with a cocktail reception, silent auction and entertainment provided by local favorites, Queen Califia, followed by a celebration and dinner. Proceeds from a silent auction will benefit Long Beach’s Mental Health Association.
