Local nonprofit We Are The Next and Vice Mayor Rex Richardson’s office are calling on all community members with memories of North Long Beach to attend an outreach meeting Friday morning as part of a project meant to document the Northside’s history.

The gathering will take place from 10:00AM to noon at the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library.

This will be the last meeting for the placemaking project called “For the Record”—a collaboration between the nonprofit, the vice mayor and the Center for Oral and Public History at Cal State Fullerton.

Ultimately, the project will feature an installation of a physical timeline along the public sidewalk, made up of concrete decals, documenting major events throughout the last 200 years which have collectively affected the North Long Beach population, according to the nonprofit.

The timeline will be installed this summer on Atlantic Avenue between Artesia Boulevard and 60th Street.

Residents are asked to share their memories of growing up in North Long Beach, bring photos of the neighborhood and provide feedback on the installation.
