A local bra-fitting shop in Bixby Knolls, Lucy’s Boudoir, is collecting new bras and underwear for the 2015 Support Your Sister Bra Donation Drive, benefiting the WomenShelter of Long Beach, New Life Beginnings and the Lydia House.
Owner Michelle Jouvence realized that many of her customers were tossing perfectly good bras they had purchased prior to a visit to her store because they lacked the perfect fit. Jouvence saw the waste as an opportunity to put these new and gently used undergarments to good use.
Since 2012, The Support Your Sisters Bra Donation Drive has received over 600 bras and uplifted the lives of many in need. The boutique also provides bra-fitters to properly fit women at the shelter. The employees at Lucy’s Boudoir believe “that a properly fitting bra positively impacts a woman’s confidence, posture, appearance and overall wellbeing,” according to the release.
“What a blessing this drive has been for our clients,” said Tonya Hubbard, New Life Program Supervisor for the Lydia House, in a statement. “Many of our clients come to the Lydia House shelter empty-handed, with only the clothes they wear. Due to the compassionate hearts at Lucy’s Boudoir, we are able to provide much needed undergarments to homeless women in need, during a most trying time in their life. It means more to them than we can express.”
Women can donate their new or gently used bras and new underwear to Lucy’s Boudoir starting November 9 through December 11. Any monetary donations will be used to purchase new undergarments. For more information about the drive, click here.
Lucy’s Boudoir is located at 3925 Long Beach Boulevard.
