Long Beach Hospitality Alliance will be participating in National Denim Day on April 25 as they host their second annual Hospitality Alliance Job Fair at Hyatt Regency Long Beach.

Organizations will be wearing jeans during the operating hours to raise awareness of sexual assault. Employees and organizations at the Alliance Job Fair and Career Workshop such as WomenShelter of Long Beach, Pacific Gateway and Long Beach CaLL will be participating in National Denim Day.

While Denim Day is recognized each April in honor of Sexual Violence Awareness Month, it was “triggered by a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped her rapist remove her jeans, thereby implying consent,” according to Denim Day.

A portion of the event will be dedicated to sharing the Denim Day message with attendees through sexual assault awareness materials and resources from WomenShelter of Long Beach.

Participation in National Denim Day is part of #SafetyTogether Campaign generated by hotel members of the Long Beach Hospitality Alliance. This campaign is to raise the awareness of sexual assault and prevent sexual violence in the Long Beach community.
