Celebrating the Long Beach Opera’s upcoming performance of “Marilyn Forever,” Long Beach Cinematheque will host a free outdoor cemetery screening of Billy Wilder’s 1959 classic “Some Like It Hot” next month.
“Featuring Marilyn Monroe in one of her most beloved roles—and one that continues to serve as a testament to her considerable talents as a comic actress—Some Like it Hot stars Tony Curtis and Jack Lemon as Joe and Jerry, two musicians on the run from the mob after witnessing a gangland massacre,” Long Beach Cinematheque said in a statement about the multiple award-winning film. “Desperate to escape, they hitch a ride with a band of musicians on their way to Florida. Only one catch – this band is all-female, so Joe and Jerry transform themselves into Josephine and Daphne, leading to a series of increasingly hilarious situations ranging from the desperate measures they have to go through to keep their cover, their rapid-fire transformations from suave guy to sweet lady as they flirt with the gals, and for Jerry/Daphne, the advances of a lusty Florida gentleman.”
The film will screen at Sunnyside Cemetery, located at 1095 East Willow Street, on March 13 at 8:00PM. Gates will open at 6:30PM, and guests and are encouraged to bring low-back chairs and blankets. Food and picnic baskets are also welcome.
