March For Our Lives Long Beach will be held at Bixby Park on Saturday, a student-organized march inviting the community to show up in support of school shooting victims nationwide and to “protect kids not guns”.
Students from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida started March For Our Lives to end gun violence and mass shootings in schools. Parkland students will be marching in Washington D.C. to call for action against prioritization of guns over people’s lives. March For Our Lives Long Beach will be one of the more than 800 marches taking place on March 24 throughout the U.S. and worldwide.
Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia, President of the Long Beach Unified School District Board of Education Megan Kerr and Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn will be attending the Long Beach march, set to take place from 10:00AM to 1:00PM.

“By choosing to attend this event, you are committing to participate nonviolently and in accordance with the law, to work to de-escalate confrontations with others, and to obey the orders of authorized event marshals and of law enforcement,” organizers stated.
One student organizer of #marchforourliveslongbeach wrote in the description that those interested in volunteering should contact Trevor Schnack on Facebook Messenger because they had to use their father’s account to create the event page.
“While I’m old enough to buy a gun in some states, I’m not old enough to create a public Facebook event.”
