The Long Beach Creative Group is seeking works by local artists for its upcoming exhibition “Ocean,” set to premiere Nov. 7.

As the title suggests, this exhibition is themed on all things pertaining to the ocean through paintings, drawings, sculpture and/or mixed media.

“The LBCG board are eager to see how their community experiences the ocean, whether imaginatively, nautically, scientifically (environmental, biological, ecological), or for entertainment,” the collective said in a statement.

While the artists are permitted creative freedom, they do ask that the works submitted be for sale, “reasonably priced,” produced in the last five years and be gallery ready.

The call is open for any artist who lives or grew up in Long Beach, Signal Hill, Lakewood and San Pedro. Students and alumni at Cal State Long Beach and Long Beach City College are also invited to apply. There is a $16 entrance fee and artists may submit up to three artworks.

The deadline to submit is Sept. 24, click here for more info on applying.

A panel of judges yet to be determined will decide which pieces make it into the final exhibition, a strategy employed for the gallery’s last open-call exhibition, “Coming Together: An Exhibition of Small Works,” which featured 85 pieces selected from 465 entries submitted by 190 local artists.

The exhibition will be available for viewing Thursday through Sunday from 1-4 p.m. beginning Nov. 7 through Dec. 5. No appointment is required.
