The city of Long Beach celebrated Mardi Gras on Saturday with a parade around Rainbow Harbor, during which residents and visitors were sure to let the good times roll, or, as they would say in New Orleans, laissez les bon temps rouler.

The festive afternoon featured various attendees and parade participants cloaked in brightly-hued outfits and costumes accessorized by an abundance of purple, yellow, green and gold beads.

The afternoon event, held in honor of the world-famous celebration in New Orleans, featured a little bit of something for everyone, including live entertainment, mask- and bead-making stations and a shrimp-eating contest at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.

These photographs depicting some of the colorful characters who participated in the celebration are courtesy of one of our readers, Teresa Ward.
