Long Beach State Men’s Basketball will play against CSU Bakersfield at the Walter Pyramid on Monday, October 30, with all proceeds from the game to go toward supporting relief efforts for the California fires this past month.

Funds will go directly to the Sonoma County Resilience Fund that was set up following the fires in Northern California. The organization was chosen by the LBSU Athletic Department for their response and efforts after the wildfires and the game was sanctioned by the NCAA.

According to a statement from Cal Fire, the fires have killed 42 people, destroyed 8,800 structures and left more than 100,000 people displaced from their homes. More than 2,300 firefighters are still currently fighting six active wildfires, many of those projected to be extinguished by the end of the week. According to a statement from LBSU Athletics, the fires have cost more than $3 billion in damages.

The Sonoma County Resilience Fund is focused on medium to long term recovery and to date have given out more than $200 million dollars to address issues including housing, hunger, economic well-being and mental health.
