Misty May-Treanor, former Long Beach State volleyball player and three-time Olympic gold medalist, will compete in the seventh annual Dancing for Our Stars Gala, presented by the Memorial Medical Center Foundation.

The gala is based on the television series, “Dancing with the Stars,” and pairs six community members with professional dancers, or their significant other. The teams then compete against each other—while raising funds—by collecting votes from the crowd.

May-Treanor will dance with her husband Matt Treanor. The couple gave birth to their first child, Malia, at Miller Children’s and Women’s Hospital Long Beach earlier this year.

“We are very excited to have Misty May and Matt Treanor join our group of contestants for this year’s ‘Dancing for Our Stars’ Gala,” says Michele Roeder, director, major gifts, Memorial Medical Center Foundation. “Having seen first-hand the care that is provided by the BirthCare Center, it means a lot to us that they have decided to come back and support our fundraising efforts.”

Other competitors include be Diane Beck, RN, director, clinical operations, BirthCare Center; Deborah Kearn and Ed Wilson, Mayor, Signal Hill; Dawna and Gary DeLong; Robin and Carl LaBarbera; Natalie Barron; and Marisol Jablonski.

The gala and dance competition, which benefits the BirthCare Center at Miller Children’s and Women’s Hospital Long Beach, will take place on January 31 at Long Beach Arena. Admission is $250 per person, and $2,500 for a table of 10. It will also include a 5:30PM cocktail reception and 7:00PM dinner with the dance competition. The event is black tie optional.
