This summer, music, art, film and dance will be wed with an infusion of Latin American cultural flavor courtesy of the Museum of Latin American Art’s En la Noche Summer Series.

Consisting of three events, one held in each of the three months of summer, the Long Beach museum has partnered with KCRW 89.9 FM to offer the community this trio of evening social gatherings.

The first of the trio of evenings is set for tomorrow, Thursday, June 16. This first En la Noche Summer Series event will feature live sets by KCRW DJ Raul Campos. A native Angeleno, Campos was the voice of pirate radio in the mid-1990s and today hosts a live show weeknights from 10 p.m. to midnight on KCRW 89.9 FM featuring funky beats, underground rhythms and Latin-loving and daring melodies. The evening’s other offerings include Lucha Libre, exhibition tours, a complimentary tequila tasting and photo booth.

KCRW DJ Mario Cotto will be on the decks during the second En la Noche Summer Series July 21. The son of a preacher from North Philadelphia, Cotto started out at the radio station as a volunteer and worked his way up to having his own show, which airs live Saturday nights from 10 p.m. to midnight. Cotto describes his two-hour radio sets as a “kaleidoscope Dada dance party. His live sets will accompany a bicycle show featuring more than 30 street bikes, exhibition tours and a complimentary tequila tasting.

The third and final night in the series is set for Aug. 18 and will feature live sets by KCRW DJ Anthony Valadez, whose radio show airs Tuesday mornings from midnight to 3 a.m. and features future beats, soulful keys and samples and sounds from tomorrow. Also a producer who makes his own music, Valadez has residencies at the Little Temple Bar, Zanzibar and Townhouse. A drifter car show, exhibition tours and a complimentary tequila tasting will round out the En la Noche evening.

Each event runs from 6 to 10 p.m. MoLAA and KCRW members get free admission plus one guest, while non-members pay $10. Tickets can be purchased online by visiting MoLAA.org.
