This Sunday, the Arts Council for Long Beach is bringing A LOT artists Katina Mitchel and Donna Sternberg and Dancers to North Long Beach, along with their Mobile Gallery Exhibition, which features five artists who have installed work into trucks. All this is happening in conjunction with the first Taste of North Town, organized by Stephen Metz. Metz has also arranged for some creative entertainment, including a performance by singer, songwriter, and fledgling guitarist Reuben Cannon.

Cannon may be best known for touring with his sister-in-law, Mariah Carey, but he’s been a working musician for years. He was on Def Jam Records and, although between labels right now, he’s in the studio working on new material.

“It is very important to have the best quality presentation for all the different age groups we have been targeting,” Metz explained. “Events like the Taste of North Town are usually held either in the downtown area or Belmont Shore. We want to show adults and kids that North Long Beach is also a quality destination where people can be entertained, dine, and socialize as well.”

Reuben is also making a stop at Jordan High School on Friday.

In this telephone interview, Cannon speaks candidly about the challenges of songwriting, learning the guitar, and working in the studio.
