Hey Long Beach, this week we’ve had a lot of great food news, including the coming of a macaron shop to Belmont Shore (find that story below). We also hope you’ve nailed down something fun to do with dad for Father’s Day, but if not, make sure to browse our weekly roundup of events to check out over the weekend.

In other news: On Friday, June 16, one of the city’s most beloved Indian fusion restaurants, Appu’s Cafe, is throwing a grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting for its newest location in East Long Beach at 2211A Palo Verde Ave. The celebration starts at 1 p.m. with the ribbon cutting commencing at 3:30 p.m.

The Special Olympics Southern California Summer Games returned in full force at Cal State Long Beach for the first time since the pandemic last weekend. More than 1,000 special needs athletes, from San Diego to San Luis Obispo, competed for medals in basketball, flag football, track, swimming and bocce ball.
