It seems like Long Beach restaurants always step up in times of need. This week, it was legendary Filipino bake shop Gemmae.

We got a call recently from Jessica Gillette, founder of Long Beach Filipinx Action Network, who wanted to share some kudos for the family-owned West Long Beach business.

A sponsor had fallen through at the last minute for LBFAN’s Filipino American History Month celebration, and Gemmae jumped right in to fill the gap, providing a free — and we all know it was delicious — buffet of Lumpia, Calamansi Fried Chicken, rice and more.

“Gemmae Bake Shop didn’t just help save an event — it helped lift an entire community,” Gillette said. It’s no surprise, from Gemmae, which has a storied history in Long Beach.
