Partners of Parks (POP) is looking to raise $30,000 in celebration of its 30th anniversary, the nonprofit group announced Monday.
Since 1985, POP has raised money for programs like supervised after school programs at local parks, El Dorado Nature Center programs, junior golf and tennis programs, the Long Beach Municipal Band, Movies in the Park, senior citizen and teen programs, youth sports leagues, special events like “Snow Days,” and Youth Assistance Scholarships to ensure access to fee-based recreation programs for low-income youth.
POP said in a statement that it would also use part of the money raised to “help ensure the safety and beauty of Long Beach parks and recreational facilities.” Past POP projects have included Baker Park, Chittick Field, dog parks, Lilly Park, Livingston Drive Playground and the Orizaba Park Community Center.
POP’s budget has not been augmented in more than 10 years, the nonprofit said in a statement, and the project have been achieved thus far by a single staff person and volunteers from the community. The group is looking to raise $30,000 this year to enhance and add to the services provided.
“I am proud to be associated with Partners of Parks and make a positive difference in my city. I encourage all residents to make a donation today to continue the great work of POP and ensure that Long Beach is always a wonderful place to live, work and play,” said Partners of Park Board President Trina Schoonmaker in a statement.
