From pie-tasting to drink specials, Downtown Long Beach will turn “Irish for a Day” when the rollicking inaugural parade rolls down Pine Avenue on Saturday afternoon.

The free family-friendly event presented by Party on Pine, slated from noon to 2:30PM, will stretch on Pine Avenue from Seventh Street to Broadway and will have multiple merchants and restaurants participating.

The parade will begin at 1:00PM and will include 30 entries.

Participating businesses and organizations include Party on Pine, Shannon’s On Pine, MILLWORKS Long Beach, Badfish Roller Derby, Junior Roller Derby of Long Beach, RIOT stage, Auld Dubliner Long Beach, Localism, MADhaus Long Beach, MADE in Long Beach, Long Beach Independent, Long Beach Music Council, Public Beer Wine Shop and the Long Beach Firefighters Association.

Events will include a pie-eating contest for Pi Day at MADE in Long Beach, judged by Assemblyman Patrick O’Donnell, and music in front of various stores, said MADE in Long Beach and parade spokeswoman Heather Kern.

“It’s a family-friendly event made in Long Beach,” Kern said.

Live music will be provided by Jelly of the Month Club at MADE in Long Beach, Hedgehog Swing on Pine Avenue, Dublin Public inside Shannon’s On Pine, SEX! MONEY! POWER! on Pine Avenue and DJ Jack Pharoah outside Shannon’s On Pine.

Shannon’s On Pine will also serve drink specials and Long Beach firefighters will be on hand cooking up hot dogs

Free two-hour parking for the event is available at city lots on Third, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Streets.

St. Patrick’s Day festivities on Pine Avenue will continue on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17 from 11:00AM to 2:00AM, when Shannon’s On Pine continues its annual tradition of serving free corned beef and cabbage for patrons.

The pub will also show movies like Legend of St. Patrick, Tours of Ireland & the Guinness Brewery and Irish Folk Dancing on its mega screen. It will also served select Irish dishes like bangers and mash, green-shelled Irish tacos and more, as well as Irish-themed drinks.
