Virtually Pets

Who cares if we’re in the dog days of summer? We’re out to help cats this week. Fix Long Beach is having an all-cat spay/neuter clinic this Saturday, so if you know anyone who has an unaltered cat (illegal in Long Beach) or if you have one or more yourself, make an appointment or come down. And if you want to learn a great new skill while saving lives of unborn, unwanted kittens, volunteer for the Make Long Beach Litter Free TNR event. See both in the Mark Your Calendars section.

Everything’s coming up kittens at the shelter and rescues, and nothing like saving one after it’s born!

Cuddles

Cuddles, 2 months, ID# A549858

Coconut

Coconut, 5 months, ID# A548942

Both of these sweet snugglers can be adopted from Long Beach Animal Care Services, 7700 E. Spring St. at El Dorado Park entrance (ask at the gate—no charge for parking at the shelter). Use the shelter entrance, and specify the ID numbers.

Kennedy and Lincoln

Kennedy and Lincoln

Kennedy and Lincoln are almost 8 weeks old. They don’t have to be adopted together, but if you happen to be looking for two, always remember that Helen Sanders CatPAWS has a 2-for-1 adoption fee for both cats and kittens! Click the link if you’re interested, or contact [email protected]. I can’t guarantee that they’ll throw in the stuffed kitty in the middle.

Pet Trap

Make Long Beach Litter Free Humane TNR Event

July 6–12, Long Beach

All hands are needed on deck to help trap/spay-neuter release (TNR) in Long Beach over the week! We will provide training, traps and all the spay and neuter procedures. All we need is your time!

We have targeted areas where hundreds of kittens taken in by or brought to the Long Beach shelter have come from, and these areas need to be TNR’d immediately to stop more homeless kittens from being born. This also allows the adult cats to live out their lives in their community while stabilizing the colony.

Please help us prevent more kittens from being born and dying in local shelters! Contact us at [email protected], or text/call (562) 922-3704 if you can help us save lives in Long Beach.

Fix Long Beach Spay/Neuter Clinic, Cats Only

Saturday, July 11, 7:00AM–4:00PM: Houghton Park, 6301 North Myrtle Avenue (near Jordan High School), Long Beach

Free to qualifying residents

We’re still in the throes of kitten season—new litters are born daily, and there aren’t homes for all of them. So many get abandoned, run over, or euthanized. Fix Long Beach is helping to prevent these little tragedies by presenting the cats’ day at a special event. Cats only will be spayed or neutered for free on July 11, to qualified Long Beach residents only! If you or someone you know earns an annual salary of $30,000 or less, sign up for an appointment here. (You can also come on the date of the appointment as standby; there’s no guarantee of a procedure, but you can make one for the next event.)

When you come, bring proof of income and Long Beach residency (these events are for Long Beach residents only.) Whether you come as standby or with an appointment, do not give your cat anything to eat or drink after 12:01AM, and bring your cat in a carrier that’s dedicated as an animal carrier! No paper bags or suitcases, please! There are no walls in the park, and we want you to ensure your pet’s safety! If you don’t own a carrier, pet supply stores like Petco and PetSmart carry inexpensive cardboard ones; they run on the average of $8. Let’s continue to help make Long Beach no kill, one pet at a time!

It’s a chance for them to experience and interact in a social setting with food, drink and plenty of other distractions! It’s important for your dog to learn how to behave around other dogs and people so that they’ll be the stars of the dog park and the dog beach. The indoor facility provides for a very comfortable setting and fun atmosphere. Dogs may be off-leash if supervised closely by their owners. For their protection, we lock the front door so dogs are safe from the street traffic.
